Technology is defined as the application of science for practical purposes. Sheads technology department tries to capture the spirit of this definition by offering students opportunities to use digital technology in practical and meaningful ways such as development of the school yearbook, production of radio broadcasts for WSHD, and more. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests in meaningful ways to apply and create.

Graphics Design The Graphic Design course is designed to offer students a chance to develop greater understanding of how to use technology to produce visual products. Students will use various graphics programs, imaging devices, and design strategies to develop products for use in various ways in and out of the school. One component of the course will be to collaboratively create and self-publish a yearbook for Shead High School. Students with an interest in technology, design, or creativity should consider this course. The course is worth 0.5 elective credit and is open to anyone depending on space availability. Schedule of Assignments Instructor: David Consalvi

Independent Technology Seminar Students enrolled in this course will participate in maintaining the schools technology infrastructure including the client machines and the network. As well, each student will focus on a particular technology sector to gain proficiency. Options include computer maintenance and repair, web development, graphics design, basic programming, or radio communications. During the course of the term, students will work in different areas gaining appreciation for the various technology options. Students will submit a final portfolio or product demonstrating their development. This course is an upper level elective that requires the ability to manage time, organize, and work independently to complete a task. Available for honors credit. Instructor: David Consalvi

Web Design The Introduction to Web Development course is designed to get students building web sites using hand coding. The course will build the basic skills that enable a student to become a self directed learner using technology for planning and building web sites. The students will be able to use a simple text editor, ftp program and the Internet to present information for public access. The goal of the course is to prepare students to continue in Web development courses or pursue it on their own with an understanding of proper techniques and options available. Students will become familiar with the changes in Web development for XHTML compliance, W3C Validation, file management, and server interaction. The course is worth 0.5 elective credit and is open to anyone depending on space availability. Instructor: David Consalvi
