The Passamaquoddy chapter of the National Honor Society at Shead High School has been active for many years. It is affiliated with the nation's premier student recognition organization.
NHS invites sophomore, juniors and seniors who are in the top 2%, 7% and 10%, respectively, of their classes to join. Students interested in joining are asked to complete an application which asks for information about the students' leadership experience, service work, and character. While academic achievement is noted and rewarded, NHS is about recognizing students who demonstrate achievement in all areas of their lives. A faculty committee reviews the applications and votes to select students to invite into membership.
As a chapter, our main service project has been hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive at Shead High School in the spring. We are looking for other ways to serve our school and communities and hope to come up with new ideas as our chapter grows.
The national organization has a web site with a great deal of information for students and parents:
As you think ahead to completing your college application, consider what an advantage it is to list your membership in the National Honor Society, a recognition of your personal and academic excellence.
