Tiger Radio- WSHD-LP Eastport Maine is a community radio station licensed to and operated out of Shead High School in Eastport, Maine since January 1983.Tiger Radio broadcasts on 93.3 and serves Eastport, Pleasant Point, Perry, Pembroke, Robbinston, Lubec and surrounding areas. We present an eclectic selection of music and entertainment for everyone. WSHD offers opportunities for students and community members to learn about radio, and host their own radio shows. Wabanaki Studies Curriculum- Comprehensive, standards aligned, Wabanaki Studies curriculum for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 11, which includes upwards of 300 lessons. This curriculum was developed over seven years through close collaboration between Wabanaki advisors and PPS educators. More than 100 individuals and partner organizations contributed to its creation, including over 60 contributors from the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet/Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, and Abenaki nations. Wabanaki Tribal Museum-The Wabanaki Culture Center and Museum is home to artifacts, historical displays and works of art of the Passamaquoddy and Penobscot Native American Tribes. Additionally, there is a Touch Tank which contains local sea creatures—fun for children and adults! This historic building also contains offices for Maine Indian Education, the Maine Visitors Center and the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce. Waponahki Museum Resource Center-The Museum has on display Maine Native tools, baskets, beaded artifacts, historic photos, and arts and crafts in Pleasant Point. College Transitions Support (through Wash. County Adult Ed)- Free support for people who may be thinking of taking college courses but are not sure what career path is right for them or not sure how to apply for school, fill out financial aid forms, or take college entrance exams. Help is available in taking the Accuplacer test and free tutoring offered if the Accuplacer test results are low. Free tutoring is also available for students already enrolled in college but who may need extra help to keep up with their classes. Support staff can travel to meet with folks anywhere in the county. The Hope Fund- Provides one-time financial assistance for expenses that threaten a family’s ability to care for their children (now ages 0–18) and are not covered by other sources. John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood- Provides funding to support youth/ young adults in or formerly in foster care in their transition to adulthood. Housing Support Program (Healthy Acadia)- Housing navigation supports individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness to seek, apply, enter, and maintain permanent housing. Housing navigators work with community members to identify and meet housing goals, and overcome barriers to successful housing. Blueberry Harvest School- The Blueberry Harvest School is a summer school for migrant children (ages 3-13) designed to provide students with the opportunity to attend school while they are in Maine and may be missing school days and credits in their home states. Welcome Home Downeast LLC- of Mano en Mano was developed to support families new to the Downeast area rent quality, affordable housing and begin the pathway to home ownership. Welcome Home Downeast’s goal is to purchase, renovate or build 6-7 homes in Milbridge, Cherryfield, Harrington, Gouldsboro or the surrounding area. This initiative is intended specifically for workers in the agricultural, aquaculture and fishing industries who do not currently live in Downeast Maine, but have a seasonal connection to the area. Penobscot Bay language School- Provides language and cultural learning to the local and global communities. Our three-prong approach comprehensively addresses the importance of understanding and participating in cultural diversity and includes: 1) weekly language classes 2) tutorials in several languages for all ages and all levels, 3) French cooking and conversation and a rich variety of cultural events. The school has served more than 6,350 Maine residents in foreign language courses and through cultural events as well as over 540 English Immersion students from more than forty countries.
